Southern Mens League Match 6 Bedford

SMRAC narrowly avoided relegation (we think!) despite a fifth place finish at Bedford on Saturday. The team came up against four strong sides but showed great character to fill every event and achieve a number of personal or season bests.

PBs were picked up by Harry McCulloch (800m - 2:06.6), Grant Bridgman (400mH – 62.5s), Mark Snaith (5,000m – 16:43.6) and Adam Richardson (shot – 12.33m).

In the 100m Nigel McCarthy and Ben Keville made their club debuts and both ran 12.0s. Keville also competed in the long and triple jump. Harry McCulloch was joined by Sathira Don in both the 800m and 1,500m while Marc Snaith was supported by Grant Bridgman in the 5,000m and Chris Brook in the 3,000mSC.

Jacques Ezzeldin (24.6s) and Mervyn Glover (24.9s) teamed up in the 200m and also in the high jump (1.75m and 1.80m respectively). In the throws, Bridgman and Neil Jennings picked up two first places in the javelin. Adam Richardson was joined by Jennings in the shot (first and third), hammer (two third places) and 110m (fifth and second). Richardson and Kieran Hipkins competed together in the discus (two third places) and pole vault (fourth and joint second).

Gary Palmer ran a seasons best 55.9s in the 400m and a strong relay leg of 57.0s together with McCulloch (59.0s), Bridgman (58.3s) and Ezzeldin (55.2s). The team of McCarthy, Jennings, Bridgman and Glover finished fourth in the 4*100m relay in 48.8s.

Thanks again to Kim, Robin, John, Bob and Chris Kate for organising and officiating.

Results: 1st Brighton – 119 points; 2nd Newbury – 112.5; 3rd Bedford – 112; 4th Newham & Essex – 102; 5th SMRAC – 83.5.
