Southern Mens League Match 3 Report – Eton
The third Southern Mens League meeting of the season saw the team travel the short distance to Eton and gain a well deserved third place.
Results: 1st Woking – 121 points; 2nd Met Police – 109; 3rd St Mary’s – 105.5; 4th Woodford Green – 104.5; 5th Aldershot – 83 points
Debutants Felix Sheil (400m, 200m – 4th in both, 4*400 – 5th) and Ed Smith (1500m – 3rd) performed admirably to help keep the team 1 point ahead of Woodford Green on the day while Grant Bridgman improved his PB in the javelin once again (51.97m).
The day started off with Mark Snaith and Chris Brook picking up excellent second places in the 400H while in the hammer Paul Derrien and Neil Jennings did the same. Snaith went on to get a seasons best (10:45.6) for second place in the 3,000m steeplechase while Derrien posted second places in the A-string discus, B-string shot and fourth in the A-string pole vault. Jennings took part in the shortest and longest events of the day coming fourth in the A-string 100m, third in the B-string 5,000m and also fourth in the B-string triple jump.
It was a busy day once again for Adam Richardson and Chris James. Richardson came second in the A-string shot and B-string discus, third in the A-string 110m hurdles and fourth in the B-string long jump. James won the B-string high jump, came third in the B-string pole vault and 110m hurdles, fourth in the A-string triple jump and fifth in the A-string triple jump. Richardson and James joined Mervyn Glover and Kieran Hipkins to gain third place in the 4*100m relay.
Glover continued his unbeaten start to the season with a 1.90m A-string high jump victory and came fourth in the A-string 200m. Hipkins won the B-string javelin and came third in the B-string 100m.
Harry McCulloch posted a solid 400m time for third place in the B-string and came fourth in the A-string 800m. Adam Villard came third in the B-string 1,500m while Alex Gill came fourth in the 5,000m A-string. The 4*400m team of Smith, Bridgman, McCulloch and Shiel ended the day with a fifth place.
