Minis

Rebecca Townsend administers and coaches the SMRAC Minis section of the St Mary’s Richmond Athletics Club.
If you would like your athlete to join the waiting list please email their name and date of birth to SMRAC Membership secretary at membership@smrac.org.uk

The Minis is for children aged 8 – 11 years old ideally in school years 4 – 6.

The training night is Thursdays 6.00-7.00pm term time only.
We train at St Mary’s University athletics track TW1 4SX.

We follow England Athletics 365 programme which recommends that all athletes this age take part in running, jumping and throwing.
During each training night we do a whole group warm up and then athletes will take part in two 20 minute sessions which cover a variety of running, jumping and throwing. Usually the session cover some technical practice of the event and then a fun challenge related to the event that they have practiced.

We try and hold one competition just for the Minis each term called Quadkids in which athletes score points for the how fast they run and how far they throw and jump. Every athlete takes part in four events 75m sprint, 600m run, long jump and vortex howler throw. Every Mini athlete receives a certificate with their points on which they can compare term on term.

We are very much focused on participation and enjoyment and like to encourage every Mini to try their best and have fun during the sessions.

Joining Minis is by invitation only. Athletes are invited to join from the SMRAC Club waiting list. Athletes who are of the correct age who were first to join the waiting list are the first to be invited to join Minis. Each term the athletes already in Minis get priority for booking the next term.

If you would like your athlete to join the waiting list please email their name and date of birth to SMRAC Membership secretary at membership@smrac.org.uk

At the end of the term in which the Mini athlete turns 11 years old, they will be invited for an induction to the Junior section of the club (11-14 years) which once they have attended they can start training in the Junior Section.
